WATCH: How ‘dark kitchens’ are taking over the restaurant scene

The Restaurant Association of South Africa (Rasa) says the sector employs about 800,000 people, and that nearly one-third of restaurants have shut down since the onset of lockdown.

So-called dark kitchens, where food is prepared in a home-based setting and delivered directly to clients, have seen an upsurge.

We visited one such newly formed small business called Kitchen Incidental, whose owner, Christian Schoeman, hopes to supply Johannesburg residents with freshly sourced and home-prepared pasta sauces.
