4 JMPD officers test positive for Covid-19

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) confirmed four members tested positive for Covid-19.

JMPD stated that one officer fell ill during the night shift on May 13 and was tested at Netcare Milpark Hospital.

The positive results were received on May 15.

The officer was discharged and is quarantined at one of the medical facilities which specialises in the treatment of Covid-19 patients in the city.

As a result, JMPD stated that management arranged for other officers who worked with the JMPD to be tested.

“A total of 107 officers were tested by the afternoon of May 18 and three more officers tested positive for Covid-19. They were also placed in quarantine,” stated JMPD.

Chief of Police director Sipho Delphu said JMPD implemented measures to ensure officers have access to personal protective equipment (PPE).

“We are rolling out ongoing screening and testing of officers to ensure their safety and well-being.”.

Delphu urged acting officers to be vigilant, adhere to the strict protocols on social distancing, make use of PPE equipment and to immediately present themselves for screening and testing should they display any symptoms or signs of infection.
