Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 63 404

Number of confirmed cases increases by 4 031 since Saturday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 63 404 with 18 585 recoveries and 353 deaths on Sunday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Monday.

The department said out of 34 952 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 22 390 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and they were de-isolated.

The department said 2 553 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

  • Johannesburg: 30 404 cases and 10 523 recoveries
  • Ekurhuleni: 14 080 cases and 4 086 recoveries
  • Tshwane: 10 074 cases and 2 411 recoveries
  • Sedibeng: 2 528 cases and 594 recoveries
  • West Rand: 3 948 cases and 971 recoveries

  • And 92 unallocated cases.

*On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
