Van-load of dagga weighing 176kg seized in Port Shepstone

Police bounced on the suspicious vehicle on the N2 Main Harding road.

A 31-year-old man was recently arrested and appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court for recently being in possession of 43 bags of dagga.

Members from Port Shepstone SAPS K9 as well as Port Shepstone Crime Intelligence were conducting observations duties in Port Shepstone when they received information regarding a suspicious vehicle transporting dagga.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said they immediately acted and spotted the vehicle along the N2 Main Harding road and ordered the driver to stop the vehicle.

The members searched the vehicle and discovered that it had 43 bags of dagga which weighed 176kg hidden in the back of the van.

The street value is about R529 731. The man was shortly arrested and appeared last year in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s court.

He is facing a charge of dealing in dagga.

The Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele is extremely pleased with the recovery and urges the community to continue to work hand in hand with police by reporting criminal activities such as illegal firearms, drugs and the sale of stolen property.
