Notorious gang has links to high-profile business people and politicians, says police
KZN Police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says high profile business people and some politicians are linked to a gang that has been terrorizing Pietermaritzburg.

Today (Sunday) four more members of the criminal gang responsible for the spike in murder and robbery around Pietermaritzburg were apprehended.
In an intelligence driven operation heavily armed members of the police special task team together with other units swooped on a guest house in Woodhouse Road and arrested the four suspects.

The latest operation follows last week’s dramatic raid on a house in Scottsville where five gang members and two accomplices were shot dead during a shootout with police.
The police team which has been tracing these gangs received information of the whereabouts of the gang and went to a lodge that is situated on Woodhouse Road not far from where seven suspects were fatally wounded last week.
The arrested suspects are linked to a string of murder cases that were committed in the Pietermaritzburg, Imbali, Richmond, Bergville as well as robbery, rape and assault with the purpose to inflict grievous bodily harm. The suspects will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
The Pietermaritzburg regions recently experienced a spike in murder, robbery and rape linked to the gang’s activity.
“We will not rest until we arrest all those that are linked in causing the instability in Pietermaritzburg and in the province. Our operations are still on-going and all those that are involved in these criminal acts including those high profile individuals (business people and politicians) will be arrested. We will not rest until there is peace and stability in our province,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
