Tshwane police in shootout with ‘road trap’ suspects, one injured
A suspect was wounded when Tshwane metro police and two suspected robbers exchanged fire on Monday night (August 9).
TMPD officers allegedly caught the suspects, two men, setting a trap for motorists on the M20 road in Hebron.
“TMPD members were doing patrol duties on Monday, when they spotted two suspects placing bricks on the road at M20 around 23:30 in Hebron,” Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said in a statement to the media.
“When the two suspects saw the TMPD vehicle, one drew a firearm and shot at the TMPD vehicle and the bullet went through the rear windscreen.”
TMPD swiftly reacted, firing back at the suspects and injuring one.
“The other suspect ran away. An ambulance was called and the injured suspect was taken to hospital under police guard.”
Mahamba confirmed a case of attempted murder was being investigated.
