Thank you, South Africa – you helped to #BringThemHome.
Over the past three weeks, social media has been flooded with pleas for the safe return of Zidan (7), Zayyad (11), Alaan (13) and Zia (15) Moti who were kidnapped on their way to school on October 20.
They were reunited with their parents on Wednesday evening (November 10) after the kidnappers dropped them off in Vuwani and a local resident informed the authorities, Brigadier Vish Naidoo from the police confirmed.
#YouBroughtThemHome with your continuous messages of support, prayers and vigils. The safe return of the four brothers has brought relief to the many who have followed this story and people have taken to social media to welcome them home.
In a social media post, Curro Heuwelkruin said: “We are overjoyed by the return of the Moti brothers!”
While social media influencer, self-proclaimed humanitarian and human rights defender Catherine Constantinides said the public should allow the Moti family time to heal from this ordeal.
“Dear SA, we wake to the blessing and miracle of such wonderful news. The boys have been released and have been reunited with their parents. Let us thank God for his grace and protection, and let us allow the family time to heal from this trauma. All thanks to God. Shukr!”
Fasiha Hassan, a member of the Gauteng Legislature and #FeesMustFall activist, tweeted that responses about conspiracies and claims of a staged kidnapping should be avoided. “Where is our humanity? A family is picking up the pieces after extreme trauma. We may be interested in the finer details but allow the family their space & the authorities to do their work.”
Limpopo Premier Chupu Mathabatha also welcomed the safe return of the brothers. “Let us support the family and give them space to process the whole ordeal.” He added that Provincial Government will continue to provide the family with the support they need.
A prayer session is scheduled to take place on November 12 at 10:30 in Nirvana at the parking lot in front of Enterprise Wholesaler. “We want to thank God for bringing back the Moti kids,” reads the social media post that invites residents of various faith groups to join the session.
