Covid-19: The latest on the vaccination campaign, infections and predicted waves
The good news this week is that over 40% of SA’s adult population is now vaccinated, while of concern is a slight growth in the number of new infections.

On November 19, South Africa reported 789 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 2 928 288. A total of 19 061 166 tests had been conducted to date. A further seven Covid-19 related deaths were reported in the previous 24 hours, bringing total fatalities to 89 562. Recoveries stood at 2 820 731. A total of 24 594 906 vaccines had been administered across the country.

Over 50s now also eligible for Vooma vaccination grocery vouchers during November 
Vooma Vouchers are meant to make it easier for older people to get vaccinated by offsetting some of the costs they incur getting to vaccination sites.

Over 40% of SA’s adult population now vaccinated

According to the Department of Health’s latest data, 13 673 027 (or 34.1% of over 18s) are now fully vaccinated, while 319 797 (or 5% of children aged between 12 and 17) have received a Pfizer vaccine.
South Africa has 16 102 982 adults, or 40.46% of its adult population, vaccinated with at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Over 250 000 children vaccinated in SA since October

Since October 20, over a quarter of a million children in South Africa have received a dose of the Pfizer vaccine. At this stage, only one dose of the vaccine is administered to children between the ages of 12 and 17.

Since the start of the vaccination programme in May, the Western Cape Department of Health has managed to administer 3 910 986 vaccines. Pop-up sites and in-residential vaccination sites have now become regular features across the province.
