A six-year-old girl who was brutally attacked and bitten in the face by a dog in Mountain View, is traumatised but recovering, according to her mother.
Little Lee-Anne Coetzee was bitten around her eye and a part of her upper jaw was torn in the attack.
According to her mother, Lezel Coetzee, the attack happened on Thursday evening during a visit at a family member’s house.
“The dog, a Boerboel, was lying in the doorway as we left. I was told that Lee-Ann tried to jump over the dog when it suddenly attacked her.”
Coetzee said they rushed Lee-Anne to hospital.
“It was terrible to see her like that. She was in a lot of pain and bleeding profusely.”
She said her daughter received stitches around her eye, down her face, on her nose, in her ear, and side of her face. Her upper jaw was partially torn in the attack, and she would still need to go for X-rays to see the extent of the damage to her jaw.
Coetzee said Lee-Anne would have to undergo surgery to repair her jaw.

An emotional Coetzee explained the family did not have medical aid and were, therefore, reliant on appointments at government hospitals.
“My daughter is still in a lot of pain. She struggles to sleep at night. This was very traumatic for her.”
Coetzee said she had not yet opened a case with the police or contacted the SPCA.
“Something needs to be done about the dog before it attacks someone else.”
Rekord reached out to the owners of the dog, but they declined to comment by the time of publishing.
