Stage 2 load-shedding announced for peak-hours tonight

Eskom has warned there is a possibility of higher stages being implemented should any further breakdowns occur.

Eskom has announced that Stage 2 load-shedding will once again be implemented from 17:00 until 22:00 tonight, saying that more load-shedding during evening peak hours are on the cards.

According to Eskom, the onset of winter has caused an increased demand on the power grid that will lead to severe capacity constraints throughout the season. Evening and morning peaks are particularly high.

Generation units at Kusile and Arnot power stations are expected to return to service this afternoon. Since yesterday, three units, at Arnot, Grootvlei and Matla are offline while two units, at Kriel and Grootvlei, were returned to service.

Currently, there is 3 049MW on planned maintenance while 15 762MW is unavailable due to breakdowns.
