Lesufi to receive report on racism, sexual assault allegations at Randfontein school

MEC Lesufi is to receive a report about alleged racism and sexual assault at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen in Randfontein where police had to intervene after violence broke out between two groups of learners in February.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has confirmed that the MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, will receive a report at Hoërskool Jan Viljoen at about 15:00 this afternoon, following an investigation into pressing issues at the school.

Police were called in to restore peace after a fight between two groups of learners broke out on February 11.

The aftermath of the clash revealed allegations of racism and sexual assault with a staff member placed on precautionary suspension and an investigation launched.

Parents of different race groups clashed again while waiting at the school to speak to Lesufi on February 17.

According to a GDE media release, Lesufi will meet with the school management team, school governing body and parents of the school regarding the outcome of investigations into allegations of racism and sexual assault at the school.
