Pregnant woman, two children die in Springs house fire

The man told his wife to get the children out of the house while he ran to get help.

A Springs man lost his pregnant wife and their two children when a fire gutted their home in Dersley Park on Sunday night.

He was alerted to the fire by his wife who woke him up around 22:00.

“He told her to get the children out while he went to seek help,” explains Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, communications officer at Springs SAPS.

The man went to a cottage on the same yard for assistance.

“When he returned to the house it was already fully ablaze and there was a lot of smoke,” adds Tshabalala.

The fire brigade extinguished the fire.

The man’s wife (36) was found on the kitchen floor and their four-year-old daughter in the lounge. They both died from smoke inhalation.

Their two-year-old daughter, who was found in the corner of one of the bedrooms, suffered extreme burns.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and an inquest docket has been registered. The man’s stepfather, who was also in the house, survived the blaze.
