Kagiso Police Station were the top ranked precinct in Gauteng in various violent crimes when minister of police Bheki Cele presented the statistics for crimes reported from January 1, 2022 to the end of March 2022 last Friday.

The numbers told a disturbing story for Kagiso, as the station repeatedly was listed among the 30 police stations countrywide where particular crimes were rife – in some cases in the number-one spot for Gauteng.

For contact crimes it was 15th in the country and fifth in the province. For murder, it was ranked ninth in the country and number one in the province, with a shocking 87% increase in murders compared to the same period the previous year.

For attempted murder, it ranked 25th in the country and again fifth in the province. For sexual offences, Kagiso Police Station ranked tenth in the country and second in the province.

For rape cases, it was sixth in the country and number one in the province.

On the list of stations with the most assault cases, it came in at 12th for the country and fourth for the province.

For cases of robbery at residential premises, the third most cases in the province were reported at the station, and the eighth most in the country.
