An unlicensed firearm was found next to a man who allegedly shot a woman before taking his own life.

A man (39) allegedly shot and wounded a woman (39) before turning the gun on himself in Selega in Mpumalanga yesterday.

According to an article published by Mpumalanga News, provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdlhuli says the man allegedly shot the woman during a heated argument.

“Upon receiving reports of the shooting, police and paramedics immediately responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the man, with a gunshot wound, and a woman, with a gunshot wound to her right hand.

“An unlicensed firearm without ammunition was found next to the man’s body. It has been confiscated for further investigation.

“The woman was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment, while the man was declared dead on the scene,” he says.

Mdhluli says a case of attempted murder and an inquest are being investigated by the police.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident and the motive which led to the tragedy remain a mystery and will form part of the ongoing investigation by the police,” says Mdhluli.
