Man shot dead after allegedly stabbing police officer in Pretoria Central
A suspect who was allegedly threatening patrons with a knife at a liquor outlet was killed by a law enforcement officer he stabbed.
A man was shot and killed after allegedly stabbing a police officer at a liquor outlet on Lilian Ngoyi Street in Pretoria Central on Tuesday.
According to an article published by Pretoria Rekord, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo says police received a complaint about a man who was allegedly threatening patrons with a knife at the liquor outlet.
Police responded and were shown the suspect.
“It is alleged that as the police officer was confronting the suspect, he took out a knife and stabbed the officer,” Masondo says.
It was reported that in self-defence, the officer shot the suspect, who fell down and was later certified dead.
“The injured police officer was taken to the nearest medical care centre.”
Masondo says the case will be transferred to the Independent Police Investigation Directorate for further investigation.
