Wanted suspect shot and killed on M4 near uMhlanga

A wanted suspect linked to cash-in-transit robberies was fatally wounded in a shoot-out with Durban North police.

A wanted suspect was fatally wounded in a shoot-out with Durban North police on the M4 near uMhlanga, yesterday.

According to Northglen News, the station’s Rapid Response Team was allegedly following up on information when the shoot-out occurred.

The suspect was allegedly linked to cash-in-transit (CIT) robberies, confirmed KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

“Police received information that the suspect was a passenger in a vehicle which was driving on the M4 southbound and at the Lighthouse Road off-ramp, the vehicle was intercepted. The suspect got out of the vehicle and started shooting at the police and a shoot-out ensued. The suspect was shot and fatally wounded during the shoot-out. No police officer was injured during the shoot-out,” he says.

It is unclear if the suspect was linked to the recent cash-in-transit heist on the N2, where 11 people were shot and injured by the gang.

A suspect was fatally wounded in a shoot-out later that same day on Che Guevara Road (old Moore Road).
