3 killed, 4 injured in Sandton restaurant shooting
A clash at a restaurant over a no-firearm policy resulted in numerous deaths and injuries.
The usually lively and bustling nightlife of Sandton turned deadly after gunshots rang out at a restaurant in Sandton last night.
According to an article published by Sandton Chronicle, reports from authorities said that shots were fired at around 12:30 at the corner of Gwen Lane and Fredman Drive.
Initial reports indicate that three people have died and four other patrons were injured.
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed a case of murder and attempted murder have been opened following a shooting.
“Reportedly, a man with a firearm wanted to enter the restaurant, which has a no-firearm policy, and that is when the altercation started, leading to a shooting between the man’s bodyguards and security guards,” she says.
Two of the bodyguards were declared dead on the scene.
Five victims – the shooter, two patrons, a CPF member and a security guard – were taken to hospital with gunshot injuries. The shooter died in hospital.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the man who started this has previously been arrested for a shooting incident, also in Sandton, last year.
“No one has been arrested and police investigations continue,” Nevhuhulwi says.
