Standerton child porn case: Court grants bail of R20 000

The case against a man accused of possessing and distributing child pornography will continue in October.

The 59-year-old man accused of possession and distribution of child pornography was today granted bail of R20 000.

Ridge Times reports that presiding magistrate in the Standerton District Court, Sabelo Tembe, based his decision on the fact that the accused has a secure job with the Lekwa Local Municipality, owns immovable property in Standerton, and has family within the jurisdiction of the court.

The accused faces charges of possessing and distributing child pornography, one count of sexual grooming, and one count of compelled sexual assault. The latter, as defined under South African law, occurs when someone forces a third party to commit a sexual act against another person’s will.

The case was postponed to October 15 for further investigation.
