Life sentence for Mozambican who raped, murdered 6-year-old in Soweto

The Johannesburg High Court has passed a landmark sentence on a man responsible for a gruesome crime that shocked Orlando East.

Mozambican national Sara Pete Simiao, who raped and strangled six-year-old Amantle Samane to death in Orlando East in October 2024, was yesterday sentenced by the Johannesburg High Court.

According to Soweto Urban, Simiao lured Samane, who was playing with her friends, to his rented shack, where he raped and strangled her to death. After committing this heinous crime, he fled the scene, which led residents and police on a manhunt around Soweto.

The presiding judge in the case, William Karam, sentenced Simiao to two years for kidnapping, a life sentence for rape, another life sentence for murder, and an additional two years for contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.
