Alleged fraudster captured in Gauteng after a year on the run
An alleged conman, linked to scams worth over R30m, was found hiding under a pile of clothes.
Following an intelligence-driven operation by members of SCP Security and Fairlands SAPS, Cheslyn Swartz, wanted by IRS Forensic Investigations in connection with various cases of fraud, was arrested yesterday in Fairland, Gauteng.
Northcliff Melville Times reports that Swartz had been on the run for over a year after skipping bail. It is alleged that his fraudulent activities amount to over R30m.
The arrest was the result of a carefully co-ordinated takedown involving IRS Forensic Investigations, SCP Security and SAPS.
Chad Thomas from IRS Forensic Investigations expressed his gratitude to SCP Security for their effective co-ordination and liaising with SAPS and other key role players, which was instrumental in the success of the operation. SCP Security also arranged air support to assist in the arrest.
According to Jaun Van Der Westhuizen from SCP Security, after entering the premises, an extensive search was undertaken, but Swartz was nowhere to be found. He was, eventually, found hiding under clothes in a room. “He was taken into custody without incident and was not armed at the time of his arrest.”
He has been handed over to the Fairlands SAPS and will appear in court soon.
