Missing Krugersdorp teen named among Noordheuwel’s top matric achievers
Hoërskool Noordheuwel’s matric results brought pride and sorrow as missing learner Rikus Kylander was named among the top achievers with five distinctions.
Hoërskool Noordheuwel’s matric Class of 2025 celebrated strong academic results this week, but the release was marked by quiet sadness as the name of missing learner Rikus Kylander appeared among the school’s top achievers.
Krugersdorp News reports the school confirmed yesterday that Rikus achieved five distinctions in his final matric examinations. He is one of 14 learners from the class to reach this academic milestone.
Search ends without answers
Rikus went missing during a snorkelling excursion in Mozambique on December 18. An extensive multi-agency search operation was conducted before it was officially called off on Saturday, with no trace of the teenager found.
School pays tribute
Principal Dawie Kriel announced the overall results yesterday, while school marketer Sonet Guy later confirmed that Rikus was among the learners who achieved five distinctions.
“It is a beautiful achievement, but one that comes with deep sadness. We are keeping his family in our prayers during this incredibly difficult time. Our hearts are aching with them,” Guy said.
For the Noordheuwel school community, the results serve as both a moment of pride and a reminder of a learner whose future was full of promise, now overshadowed by uncertainty and loss.
