Murder-accused Marco Schalekamp appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court today where the matter was postponed to March 5 and 6.

The state has filed a formal application to revoke Schalekamp’s bail based on Sections 66, 67 and 68 of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977, which provide the legal framework for addressing breaches of bail conditions.

Lowvelder reports that the state alleges the accused has failed to adhere to the strict terms set for his release, necessitating a hearing to determine if he should await trial in custody.

The charges against Schalekamp stem from an incident that occurred in the early hours of June 5, 2025, near the White River Rugby Club.

It is alleged that, following a verbal altercation, a shooting occurred. Schalekamp was found in his vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds to his face and neck. Pieter Burger was fatally shot at the scene, while Arno van Niekerk sustained life-threatening injuries but survived.

Schalekamp faces charges of premeditated murder and attempted murder.

He was initially denied bail due to the severity of the offenses and flight risk concerns, but was eventually granted bail of R10 000 by the Mpumalanga High Court in September 2025.
