The attempted murder case against Congolese pastor Fulgence Nimubona (34) has been postponed to September 8 in Durban Magistrate’s Court, reports Southlands Sun.

Nimubona appeared in court on Mondy (July 20) on charges of being in South Africa illegally, attempted murder and contravening a protection order.

He was arrested on July 16 after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend, Nomthandazo Mbhele, multiple times at her home on The Bluff.

Mbhele remains in hospital.

It is alleged that the two had argued during a telephone conversation earlier that evening, prompting him to go to her property.

Neighbour alerts police to attack

According to the police, the victim’s daughter (16), who was in the house when the alleged incident happened, sustained an injury to her arm.

eThekwini District police spokesperson Captain Carmen Rhynes said a resident from The Bluff, who witnessed the incident, went to Brighton Beach Police Station to alert the police.

“It is alleged that a member of the community approached Brighton Beach police to report that she had heard her neighbour screaming for help. Upon investigation, the victim was found with multiple stab wounds,” Rhynes said.

Accused surrenders to police

According to the police report, Nimubona later handed himself over to the police. He had sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment before being released into police custody.

In a social media post, the leader of March and March, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, alleged that the accused and the victim were previously involved in a romantic relationship. However, the victim had obtained a protection order against the accused.
