THE case against a Congolese pastor, Fulgence Nimubona (34), who is charged with attempted murder of his girlfriend, was postponed until September 8.

Nimubona appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on July 20 on charges of being in South Africa illegally, attempted murder and contravening a protection order.

He was arrested on July 16 after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend Nomthandazo Mbhele multiple times at her home on The Bluff.

Mbhele remains in hospital following the attack at her house on July 16.

It is alleged that the accused had an argument with the victim during a telephone conversation on July 16, after which he went to the victim’s home on The Bluff where he stabbed her multiple times.

According to the police, the victim’s daughter (16), who was in the house when the alleged incident happened, sustained an injury to her arm.

Police spokesperson for eThekwini District, Captain Carmen Rhynes, said a resident from The Bluff, who witnessed the incident, went to the Brighton Beach police station to alert the police.

“It is alleged that a member of the community approached Brighton Beach police station to report that she had heard her neighbour screaming for help. Upon investigation the victim was found with multiple stab wounds,” said Rhynes.

According to the police report, Nimubona later handed himself over to the Brighton Beach police station. He had sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment before being released into police custody.

In a social media post the leader of March and March, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, alleged that the accused and the victim were previously involved in a romantic relationship. However, the victim had obtained a protection order against the accused.
