More animal carcasses found at Newcastle illegal dumping spot
A business owner in a northern KZN town has raised concerns about foul smells and the impact of illegal dumping after a series of disturbing discoveries.
Has Van Der Bijl Street in Newcastle become a pet cemetery? This is the question being asked after several animal carcasses were found illegally dumped in the vicinity in less than a week, reports Northern Natal News.
Just last week, the Newcastle Advertiser reported on a dead dog found among household refuse and building rubble that had been illegally dumped in the area.
A business owner, who contacted the Advertiser to report the carcass, said she is absolutely disgusted by the state of the area.
She further explained that illegal dumping is negatively affecting businesses, as clients shy away from visiting the area because of the excessive dumping and the resulting stench.
More carcasses found in dumping hot-spot
This morning (August 13), while inspecting the area, the Advertiser spotted the carcass of a goat, as well as the skull of another animal that had been discarded.
This discovery adds to growing concerns about the extent of illegal dumping in the area and its impact on nearby businesses.
All three incidents have been reported to Newcastle Municipality.
Municipality responds
Municipal spokesperson Musa Ngobo acknowledged the issue and advised the Advertiser that the carcasses and rubble would be removed today.
