Vaal couple’s argument ends in fatal stabbing

A 47-year-old man died after he was stabbed in the chest, allegedly by his girlfriend, during a confrontation in Sebokeng.

A 47-year-old man died after his girlfriend allegedly stabbed him in the chest during an argument in Sebokeng, in the Vaal, south of Johannesburg, yesterday (November 2), reports the Sedibeng Ster.

The incident reportedly followed a confrontation between the couple, who were in a romantic relationship, after the man approached the 40-year-old woman while she was drinking with friends in Zone 14.

According to Sebokeng police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane, an argument broke out and the man allegedly assaulted the woman. She then went to fetch a knife and stabbed him once in the chest.

The man succumbed to his injuries.

Police have opened a murder case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Sebokeng SAPS station commander Brigadier Thembekile Kubone expressed concern about violence between intimate partners, urging residents to seek help before relationship disputes escalate.

“Violence is never a solution to relationship disputes. We urge community members to resolve conflicts peacefully and seek help when faced with domestic challenges,” Kubone said.

She added that gender-based violence and femicide remained a serious concern, encouraging anyone experiencing abuse or witnessing violence to seek assistance and report incidents to the police.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact Sebokeng SAPS on 082 498 9563 or 016 466 2047, call 10111 or 112, contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or report information through the MySAPS app.
