Pulling together: 20 athletes take on 1 671km truck challenge
From Krugersdorp to the Lowveld and Polokwane, South Africans are joining forces for an extraordinary endurance challenge that involves pulling a massive truck across the country.
Forget horsepower. The Bigg Pull 2026 is relying on people power as 20 athletes take turns pulling a truck over 1 671km from Centurion to the Western Cape in a gruelling 41-day endurance challenge.
The team set off from Centurion yesterday (November 2) and is expected to reach its destination on December 12. The route winds through six provinces and dozens of towns, bringing communities together around an unusual test of strength, determination and teamwork.
One of the first opportunities for residents to see the spectacle was in Krugersdorp today (November 3), where the team travelled along the N14 and R28, Krugersdorp News reports.

The initiative aims to promote national unity, inspire communities and raise awareness and funds for charities supported by individual team members.
The challenge also has an ambitious goal: To make history through a Guinness World Records achievement.
Strong representation from across the country
Among the participants is Mbombela resident Johannes Meyer (28), reports the Lowvelder.
He is an experienced power athlete who qualified after being selected for the 2026 Power Team. His selection included a demanding 12-hour fitness evaluation and rehearsal at Air Force Base Swartkops on June 27, during which participants spent more than eight hours pulling the truck.
Five Polokwane residents are also part of the team: Roy and Mapula Colin, Mahlatse Monyepao, Matome Moreoa and Siphiwe Machoene.
They join participants from across the country in the effort to complete the demanding journey using a single rope, reports the Polokwane Review.
The rest of the team consists of Alexander Bezuidenhout, Tebogo Marobela, Andre Gerber, Anton de Beer, Antonie Holtzhausen, Eduan Jacobs, Heinrich Herbst, Francé Price, Lourens Rautenbach, Martie Fick, Megan Shaw, Nicolaas Blackie, Pieter Fourie and Stephen Tsalavoutas.
Giving back along the way
Each Power Team member has chosen a charity to support through the challenge.
According to the organisers, the challenge will cover approximately 2.1 million steps, pass through about 40 towns and support 20 official charities.
‘The rope, carried by many, pulled by One’ is the slogan behind the initiative, which aims to show what people can achieve when they work toward a shared goal.
Residents can follow the team’s progress through daily live streams and updates on The Bigg Pull’s official website and Instagram page.
