Horror bus ride after two gunmen rob commuters, driver of cellphones in Cape Town

People are urged to be vigilant as they do their year-end shopping and to report all crimes at the nearest police station.

A routine bus trip in Mitchells Plain turned into a nightmare for the passengers after two armed men robbed the passengers and driver of their cellphones before alighting from the bus, Soweto Urban reports.

In the audio below, a female passenger details how the men, posing as passengers, drew firearms and demanded that all the passengers hand over their cellphones.

According to the woman, even the bus driver was not spared as the robbers took his (the driver’s) phone as well.

She recounts what can only be termed a narrow escape and tells how she intuitively switched off her cellphone before hiding it between her legs.

“One of the men pressed a gun against my temple and instructed me to hand over my phone. I replied that I didn’t have one and he searched my bag,” the shaken woman can be heard saying in the WhatsApp voice note.

Following their ordeal, the other commuters can be heard in the background, relieved that they had survived the nightmarish experience.

We are nearing the silly season and criminals are leaping at the chance to rob law-abiding citizens of their valuables.

Everyone should be vigilant as they do their year-end shopping and to report all crimes at the nearest police station.
