Pretoria man accused of killing wife, back in court

Dawn (57) went missing on 8 June when she allegedly left home for blood tests at a nearby hospital.

A Brooklyn man, accused of killing his wife and disposing of her body, is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate court on Friday, Rekord East reports.

Prem Emmanuel Basdeo (58) faces a charge of murdering his wife whom he reported missing in June.

Dawn (57) went missing on 8 June when she allegedly left home for blood tests at a nearby hospital.

Basdeo later reported her missing; however, police claim to have found blood at their home, leading them to believe that she was murdered.

In July, he was denied bail by a Pretoria magistrate who said “no exceptional circumstances” were proven that would warrant his release.

Four months later, Basdeo appealed the decision and was granted R50 000 bail by the North Gauteng court, by acting judge David Makgoba.

Makgoba said there was no reason to believe that Basdeo would attempt to evade justice, adding that he disagreed with the previous judgment.

He said that the previous ruling focused more on the strength of the case against Basdeo and that had nothing to do with a bail application.

Basdeo also faces charges of perjury and defeating the ends of justice.

The state previously said it was looking into the possibility of linking a second suspect to the case.

Dawn’s body is yet to be found.
