Parolee rearrested following girlfriend murder
A 48-year-old parolee has been rearrested after allegedly killing his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day in eSikhaleni, KwaZulu-Natal.
Police said an argument ensued last Saturday, and the man attacked the deceased, Thino Mlambo (28), with a bush knife, fatally wounding her across her back, Zululand Observer reported.
Police added the man then disposed of her body at a nearby veld in Mpembeni Reserve before calling the police and her family.
“When he called, he admitted that he had killed her and where he had left her body. He also said he was in Pietermaritzburg and would never be found,” said Empangeni police spokesperson Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.
Following investigations by Empangeni Crime Intelligence, together with Ulundi Tactical Response Team and K9 Unit, the accused found refuge in eFuyeni Reserve in Ntambanana before fleeing to eSigubudu Reserve in KwaNongoma, where he was found and arrested on Sunday, added Mdlalose.
The suspect was released on parole three months ago after being sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for murder.
The deceased, identified as Thino Mlambo (28), also of eSikhaleni, is believed to have met and formed a romantic relationship with the accused shortly after his release
The parolee is expected to appear at the eSikhaleni Magistrates’ Court soon.
In a separate incident, a Tshwane Metro police Constable accused of strangling his girlfriend and burning her body was found guilty of murder by the high court in Pretoria last Wednesday.
Judge Mmonoa Teffo rejected Lloyd Morutse Maleswena’s (29) claim that his girlfriend Claudia Rapudi’s death had been an “accident” and found that he had intended to kill her.
Her charred remains were found in the boot of her burnt-out car in dense bushes next to the Cullinan road on November 2, 2011.
