Metro cop arrested for drunk driving
An off-duty Metro police officer has been arrested after he was involved in two accidents on Adelaide Tambo Drive in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
An eyewitness said the drunk officer first slammed into an electricity pole on Adelaide Tambo Drive before driving off.
“He then smashed into a local residence on the corner of Old Mill Way and Adelaide Tambo Drive, about a kilometre away from the initial accident,” said the eyewitness.
“The driver was detained by metro police and was charged with reckless and negligent driving and drunk driving. He was taken to the Durban North SAPS station. The man had a verbal altercation with the officers when they attempted to cuff him,” the resident said.
Crisis Medical’s Neil Powell confirmed the two incidents.
No one was injured in the accidents, Powell confirmed.
In a separate incident, a police officer and his son were arrested for drunk driving and attacking Metro police in Alberton, Gauteng.
The 46-year-old officer, who was stationed at Springs, was arrested after he allegedly attacked motorists in Alberton, said Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago.
Eyewitnesses told metro police the officer missed vehicles by inches when he skipped a red robot in his BMW. He then attacked motorists who called him to order.
When his son arrived, the two attacked metro police officers on the scene.
