Bayview man died during doctor’s visit

An inquest docket has been opened after a 63-year-old man was confirmed dead at a doctor’s surgery in Bayview, KwaZulu-Natal.

Police said the man was coughing blood and came to the doctor for treatment shortly before passing away on the doctor’s check-up bed, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.

The family of Pillay, who were at the surgery, spoke through their family member and private investigator, Seelan Pillay, of Bopha Investigations.

“Mike was a very well-known member of the community, and he was also a musician. He was very fit and would always be seen walking around,” said Seelan.

“He frequented the doctor, who did a surgical operation on him at the surgery about two weeks ago. We are suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his death.”

Police initially ruled the case as a natural death, which is what the doctor had told them, and asked the family to call the funeral services to remove the body and, if required, have a postmortem done.

In a separate incident, an inquest docket was opened on Sunday after a Mozambican government official was found dead in a pool of blood in a Durban hotel in, KwaZulu-Natal.

A cleaner allegedly found the man’s naked body near the bathtub in his room at the Blue Waters Hotel.

Major Thulani Zwane could not confirm the cause of death, as toxicology and blood tests were still under way.
