Stolen car parts found in shack

A tip-off has led to the arrest of a man after he was found in possession of suspected stolen car parts in Tarlton, Krugersdorp.

Police spokesperson Lucky Matome said police received a tip-off from community members about suspicious activities at the informal settlement, and when they conducted a search they found car parts inside one of the shacks, Krugersdorp News reported.

Police found a bonnet, boot, doors, wheels, grill, bumper and other loose car parts, some of which had a Volkswagen logo on them, added Matome.

Police arrested a 38-year-old man for possession of suspected stolen goods and will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

The station commander of Tarlton Police Station, Lieutenant-Colonel AM Molefi, applauded the officers for a job well done, and he thanked the community for working together with the police and contributing to the fight against crime.

Early this month, four security guards aged between 24 and 41 were arrested after being found with stolen metal and iron in Sebenza, Kempton Park, in Gauteng.

Sebenza police spokesperson Constable Sharon Tshotshotsho said police received a tip-off that security guards were involved in theft at a particular metal and steel company in the industrial area.

“Police arrived at the property and found four security guards loading metal and iron into a security vehicle,” added Tshotshotsho.

Police said two of the men were from Mamba Security, while the other two were from Mokopane Security.

All suspects were arrested for theft. On interrogating the suspects, police found they had already sold a first load of metal to a scrapyard.
