Fatal Phoenix sister scuffle
Police are awaiting postmortem results to determine if a minor will be charged with murder after her sister died following a fight between the two.
The girl’s elder sister, aged 22, died last week Thursday at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Phoenix, Durban, after she was rushed to hospital two weeks ago, Phoenix Sun reported.
The pair had allegedly been arguing and wrestling each other when the elder sister fell from the bed and hit her head on the floor.
She then began to convulse and was rushed to hospital the following day.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Louise Naidoo said an investigation into the woman’s death was under way.
“A postmortem was conducted, and the results will determine whether the charge will change to murder,” Naidoo said.
She added investigations were ongoing.
Last week, a 17-year-old pupil died at Eden Park Secondary School in Johannesburg after her chair was allegedly pulled out from underneath her at the Eden Park Secondary school.
Police said she was taken to the sickbay, where she was later declared dead by paramedics.
The Gauteng department of education said an independent investigation into the girl’s death would be launched.
