Clearwater Mall bomb threat investigations continue

The extensive search conducted by the police K9 Dog Unit and the Bomb Disposal Squad has reportedly not established the locations of the four bombs allegedly planted at Clearwater Mall, in the west of Johannesburg early on Monday morning.

This follows a phone call made to the mall at around 9.20am on Monday by a man threateningbombs would be detonated remotely, should he not receive R100 000 in ransom, Roodepoort Record reported.

“He demanded R100 000 after which payment he will release the locations of the bombs to us,” said provincial police spokesperson Major Mack Mngomezulu.

“Our men did their very best searching the grounds for the possible locations of these bombs but delivered no further information on it,” added Mngomezulu.

Mngomezulu said the police are not ruling out the possibility of bombs on the premises.

A final assessment of various shops will be done before the scene is cleared for shoppers to go about their business normally.

Investigations are ongoing.
