Female burglar arrested in Greenside

A suspect has been arrested for housebreaking and theft after she was caught hiding between bushes at a house in Greenside, Johannesburg.

Parkview police spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha said it was evident the main door to the house had been forced open on Thursday, and the valuables were scattered, Rosebank Killarney Gazettereported.

Caswel Siweya from ADT security said the woman was hiding among bushes in the garden and was trying to get away.

“We [ADT] responded to a triggered alarm in the early hours of the morning and then came to the scene,” added Siweya.

The victim’s handbag containing bank cards, an ID, an undisclosed amount of CASH and clothing items were found in her possession.

The suspect is currently being detained and will appear in Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges of housebreaking and theft.

Last month, three Soweto men were arrested at the gate of a Van Riebeeck Park house in Kempton Park, Gauteng after trying to gain access to the property.

Norkem Park police spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme said police officers were patrolling around Van Riebeeck Park when they received a complaint that there were suspicious people at the gate of a house on Pomelo Street.

The suspects had allegedly broken the main gate lock when police arrived at the scene.

Upon further investigation, police found the suspects in possession of housebreaking tools – a pick and pair of pliers – said Molokomme.

The suspects, aged 22 and 35, faced charges of possession of housebreaking implements and malicious damage to property.
