Two arrested for Hammanskraal business robbery
Two armed men have been arrested following a business robbery in Temba, Hammanskraal, in Gauteng.
Spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the men, aged 24 and 26, were arrested at about 3pm on Wednesday in connection with a robbery at Mabote Business Enterprise, Rekord Northreported.
The owner told police two armed men forced him and his brother to lie on the floor at gunpoint.
The robbers kicked the two and demanded money from them. They took R1 500, cigarettes worth R1 000 and airtime worth R2 000 before fleeing in a white Mercedes Benz, said Moremi.
“The owner managed to take down the vehicle’s registration number and alerted the police. Police traced the vehicle, and a chase ensued,” added Moremi.
Moremi said the robbers came to a halt when their vehicle somehow caught fire.
“They stopped and tried to run away, but police managed to catch them. The community assisted in putting out the fire. Police recovered money, cigarettes and airtime in the vehicle, but the firearm was not found,” added Moremi.
The suspects appeared at the Moretele Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
In a separate incident, two suspects aged 26 and 31 were arrested for allegedly robbing a businessand being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in KwaMashu, Durban in January.
It was alleged the unidentified victim was at his tuck shop in J section, KwaMashu, when he was approached by three suspects at gunpoint at about 3pm.
They threatened him with a firearm and took an undisclosed amount of CASH
and airtime vouchers before they fled the scene on foot, police said.
