Cockroaches discovered in Debonairs’ pizza

Two customers on two separate occasions reportedly discovered cockroaches in pizzas bought at the Debonairs Pizza branch at Randburg Square, in Johannesburg.

The customers took to both Facebook and Twitter to share their dissatisfaction. Marius Erasmus posted a picture of the pizza on Facebook, in which a cockroach is mixed in with the toppings that were used on the pizza, City Buzz reported.

“Debonairs Pizza for lunch at work with an extra special ingredient on the something meaty. Thanks Randburg Square,” the post read.

Meanwhile, Quinton Cambier on Twitter alerted the franchise that roaches had been allegedly found on pizza sold at the Randburg Square branch on different occasions.

Debonairs Pizza responded to the tweet saying; “We sincerely apologise! We take matters of health and hygiene very seriously.”

The manager at the branch said she would forward the claims to the franchise’s head officer.

This comes after a woman posted a picture of cockroaches at the Doppio Zero restaurant in Sandton City earlier this month.

In the wake of the picture doing the rounds on social media, the restaurant initially said the insects were beetles and not roaches.

Investigations into the matter by pest-control company ECO LAB, revealed the critters were in fact cockroaches.
