KZN police release assault suspects’ identikits

Police in Bayview, near Chatsworth, in KwaZulu-Natal have released the identikits of four suspects who allegedly tracked down and brutally attacked a man recently.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Collin Chetty, the four men assaulted and stabbed the victim, Lee Lotter, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.

“A case of attempted murder had been registered and is being investigated,” added Chetty.

Lotter, a former gunnery sergeant in the army who was based in Iraq, was allegedly accosted by the four suspects while on his way home after having a haircut.

“It was about 2.30pm, and I was walking along on Geisha Place to my home in Floss Street. I noticed a white Golf driving past me. When the vehicle made a U-turn and headed my way, I immediately became suspicious,” Lotter said.

He claimede the car stopped in front of him, one of the men alighted from the vehicle and tried to stab him.

“We wrestled for a while, and I hit him. When I hit him the second time, my hand swung and hit the car window and it broke. The other guys then jumped off the vehicle and pounced on me. I was stabbed twice on the left side of my body,” Lotter added.

According to him, the men jumped back into the vehicle and fled after a woman who witnessed the alleged assault began screaming.

The qualified electrical engineer claimed the men knew who he was, as they mentioned his name during the attack and also told each other to be careful because he had formal training in the army.

“I have been living in this area for eight months, and I have no enemies. I help those who come to my house, and I have no idea who would want me dead,” he said.

“The suspects were in a white VW Golf 1 with a black bonnet, sunroof and silver mags with the inscription ‘PLAYA’ on the right side. An appeal is made to the community to assist Sergeant T Frederick on 031-405-7222 to identify the persons in the identikit.” Chetty added.
