Follow-home robbers cornered and arrested
Three suspected follow-home robbers were expected to make a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday for armed robbery and attempted murder after they were cornered by police in Munsieville, Krugersdorp, on the West Rand.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Thsepiso Mashale said a 65-year-old woman went to a local shopping centre to withdraw cash so she could pay her day workers on Friday, Krugersdorp Newsreported.
“When she arrived home she noticed a black Golf Volkswagen behind her. A woman and two men approached her and then grabbed her handbag from her,” said Mashale.
The woman tried to fight back, but a suspect fired a shot before fleeing the scene.
Mashale said fortunately someone saw what had happened and followed the vehicle.
“While following them he saw a police vehicle and informed them of the incident. When the suspects saw the police they increased speed,” said Mashale.
The police gave chase and cornered the suspects on a street in Munsieville. Police managed to recover a firearm, live ammunition and cash.
This after video footage showed a Noordkruin resident in Krugersdorp narrowly escape from three armed suspects who had followed him home.
On CCTV footage of about one minute, the resident is seen being followed into his driveway at 6.30pm on June 22 and narrowly escaping from the violent attackers.
As the man’s automatic gate closed behind him after arriving home, the suspects can be seen rushing on to the property. For a few seconds the suspects disappeared into a blind corner, and one of them is seen circling the bakkie.
Seconds later the gate reopens, and the resident is seen reversing out of his driveway at high speed, with the suspects running after him.
The bakkie is seen reversing down the street as the suspects flee the scene.
