Herdsmen discover burnt and decomposed body

Investigations are under way after a group of cow herdsmen stumbled upon the body of a man who was seemingly burnt and his corpse left near the railway line on Eastbury Drive, Phoenix, in KwaZulu Natal.

KZN VIP security spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said the visibly traumatised herdsmen stopped a passing security vehicle when they found the body yesterday. Members of KZN VIP and police were summoned to the location, where members assisted in cordoning off the crime scene, Phoenix Sunreported.

“It is alleged the deceased, believed to be in his early 20s, could have been a vagrant. It appeared as if the unidentified body was burnt and left to decompose. Police are investigating further,” he added.

In a separate incident, an inquest docket was opened after the partially decomposed body of a man was found near a tree at a church in Ramsgate, KwaZulu-Natal, in May.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said the man was positively identified by his family as Thulani Nicholas Sibiya, who had been reported missing.

Mfeka said police found a piece of rope on the deceased’s neck and on the tree. It is believed Sibiya hanged himself. “Sibiya had worked for Paradise Plants at Sebenza Village, in Margate, for the past 20 years, and he was last seen at Margate taxi rank,” added Mfeka.
