Last Malamulele escapee due in court
The last of the five suspects who escaped from the Malamulele Magistrates’ Court in Limpopo last month is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said Madala Daniel Mhlongo was rearrested in his hide-out in a secluded area between Letsitele and Nkowankowa village yesterday, Capricorn Review reported.
“He was awaiting trial for a series of crimes committed in Ritavi and Letsitele areas, which included murder, hijacking and armed robbery,” said Otto.
Mhlongo will appear in the Malamulele Magistrates’ Court today on a charge of escaping from lawful custody.
Four of his accomplices appeared in court last month.
In May, one of the four suspects attempted to escape at the Nelspruit Magistrates’ Court in Mpumalanga.
It is alleged the suspects were escorted back to their holding cell by a court official when they overpowered him, ran away and scattered in different directions.
Warrant Officer Mogale said the suspects were spotted on the ground floor of a district courtroom. They were rearrested and charged with assault and attempted escape.
