WATCH: Mbombela resident clocks 45 kilometres on his balcony

A 36-year-old Mbombela resident took things to a whole new level when he ran the length of his balcony 3 462 times.

Every runner knows that a double-lapper can be both mentally and physically depleting.

A 36-year-old Mbombela resident, however, took things to a whole new level when he ran the length of his balcony 3 462 times.

Morné Green has his eyes set on the Mac Mac Ultra Marathon 50 miler later this year and although the national police commissioner, Gen Bheki Cele, was clear that no training runs or “walking of dogs of any kind” would be tolerated, he managed to clock 45 kilometres in a time of five hours and 44 minutes without disobeying this restriction.

This was all done on his 13-metre-long balcony.

“By the time I reached 20 lengths, I knew my balcony so well I could run it blindfolded. It was mentally very taxing, but I tried not to think about it too much,” Green said.

Why, you may ask. Well, according to Green he had one goal in mind – to beat marathon enthusiast Elisha Nochomovitz from France.

He did so convincingly as Nochomovitz, a resident of Balma near Toulouse, ran 42,2 kilometres in a time of 06:45 – only his balcony was seven metres in length.

“Now that I had reached this goal, I am already racking my brains to come up with a tougher challenge,” Green said.

Here is the video of his run:
