Toyota’s first all-electric SUV arrives in SA: Pricing and specs confirmed

Offered in standard and touring variants, Toyota's first electric SUV delivers up to 487km of claimed range, dual-motor all-wheel drive and a starting price of R1.18m.

Available in ‘standard’ bZ4X and bZ4X Touring flavours, Toyota’s first all-electric model has officially launched in South Africa.

The bZ4X measures 4 690 mm in length and 1 860 mm in width; making it 90 mm longer and 5 mm wider than the new RAV4, which we’ve sampled in GR-Sport guise. The bZ4X’s roofline is shorter, though, at 1 600 vs 1 690 mm. The bZ4X Touring’s width matches its sibling’s, though is both taller (1 670 mm) and longer (4 830 mm). Both models have a 2 850 mm wheelbase.

The bZ4X and Touring sport dual electric-motor powertrains producing combined power outputs of 252 and 334 kW, respectively. Toyota claims 0-100 km/h sprint times of 5.1 and 4.3 seconds – on to top speeds of 160 and 180 km/h – for the SUV and Touring, respectively. The bZ4X’s e-motors are coupled with a 73.11 kWh lithium-ion battery offering an operating range of 456-481 km on a full charge. The Touring’s slightly larger battery pack (74.69 kWh) offers 462-487 km of range.
