How to make a perfectly clear watermelon martini

The secret to a clear watermelon martini lies in straining the juice to remove any pulp, leaving you with a silky-smooth liquid.

Watermelon martinis are the epitome of summer in a glass. Light, refreshing, and bursting with fruity flavour, this cocktail is perfect for warm evenings and garden parties. While many watermelon martini recipes result in a chunky or cloudy drink, this recipe will help you craft a crystal-clear martini with a vibrant red hue that looks as stunning as it tastes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh watermelon chunks
  • 60 ml vodka
  • 15 ml  fresh lime juice
  • 15 ml simple syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Thin watermelon wedge or a twist of lime for garnish

Method

  1. Place the watermelon chunks in a blender and blend until completely smooth.
  2. Strain the blended watermelon through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a bowl or pitcher. Let the juice drain naturally without pressing the pulp.
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  4. Add all ingredients.
  5. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients thoroughly. Double strain the mixture through a cocktail strainer into a chilled martini glass.
  6. Garnish with a thin watermelon wedge or a lime twist.

Tips

  • While plain vodka works perfectly, you can also try flavoured vodkas like watermelon or citrus for an extra layer of complexity.
  • The sweetness of watermelons can vary, so taste your juice before adding simple syrup. If the watermelon is naturally sweet, you might not need it at all.
  • If you love a little heat, muddle a thin slice of jalapeño or chili with the lime juice in your shaker before adding the other ingredients.
  • For a tropical twist, swap out some of the vodka for coconut rum.
