1 critically injured after plane crash in Midrand

Investigations are underway after a plane crash in Glen Austin left one person hospitalised and another injured.

Midrand Reporter received reports of a plane crash on Donovan Road in Glen Austin earlier today.

One of the two occupants was reportedly rushed to the nearest hospital for medical treatment, while the other sustained minor injuries.

Danny Muduray of Ria Sebetsa Security Services confirmed the incident, saying: “Yes, a plane crash occurred in Glen Austin on Donovan Road [today].”

Glen Austin Residents Association chairperson John Mphatsoe added: “It’s a small plane that carries two occupants. It crashed behind [Grand Central] Airport. One occupant was rushed to the hospital.”

Sector 1 Crime Forum chairperson Jonathan ‘Joe’ Burrows also confirmed the crash, recommending contact with Grand Central for updates:“Yes, it did happen. The best is to contact Grand Central for an update.”

The South African Civil Aviation Authority’s communications manager, Sisa Majola, was contacted for comment and promised to revert with more information.
