1 dead after violent armed robbers storm West Rand home

A man was killed and another injured after armed robbers stormed a home in Khutsong, fired shots, and fled empty-handed.

A group of armed robbers caused havoc at a home in Khutsong Extension 3 on the West Rand, yesterday morning.

Carletonville Herald reports the homeowner, a woman in her 60s, was woken at around 03:00 by someone breaking open her back door.

Five armed men stormed in — two wearing balaclavas — speaking Sotho, Zulu, Xhosa, and Tswana.

“We want money and cellphones,” they demanded.

After she told them she had no money, they searched the house. As they were leaving, two men from a back room came to investigate.

The robbers fired several shots, hitting one man in the chest. He collapsed, while the other was assaulted and beaten with a firearm.

The robbers fled empty-handed.

The injured man was taken to Carletonville Hospital, but the man who was shot died.

Carletonville police are investigating murder and house robbery charges.
