Ten people were killed, including three children, and several were left injured following a collision between a taxi and light motor vehicle on the R553 Golden Highway in Eldorado Park on Wednesday, Soweto Urban reports.

ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene at 06h40 to find the taxi and light motor vehicle in the middle of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a significant amount of damage in the collision. Several people were found scattered around the scene.

Medics assessed the patients and found that ten people, including three children under 10, had sustained numerous, fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead. Several other patients were found with injuries ranging from minor to critical.

The patients were treated and thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for urgent care. The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

A word from the Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona is that MEC Mamabolo will be visiting the school and families later today.

“This is to confirm that we have lost three learners from KiashaPark Primary and Robertsham Primary School in the above horrible accident. Please Note MEC Mamabolo will be visiting the school and families later on Wednesday. We will share information soon,” said Mabona.
