110 people arrested in Pretoria for breaking lockdown laws

A total of 110 people were arrested during weekend police operations in the Tshwane west corridor.

The arrests were made by police together with other law enforcement agencies in a bid to maintain law and order among the west corridor police precincts.

These included nine stations in Atteridgeville, Pretoria West, Olievenhoutbosch, Wonderboompoort, Hercules, Erasmia, Laudium, Pretoria Central and Wierdabrug.

“Over the weekend, a total of 110 suspects were arrested for various crimes under Covid-19 regulations, including contravening acts such as not wearing a mask, drinking and driving, transportation of liquor, failure to confide after 21:00 and failure to close business at 20:00,” said police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.

She said the suspects are expected to appear before the Atteridgeville and Pretoria magistrate’s courts on Monday, on various counts.
