2 teens killed in Joburg: Police probe suspected gang attack
Police are investigating after two teenagers were shot dead and five others wounded in an apparent gang-related attack in Westbury.
Two teenagers were killed and five others hospitalised after gunmen opened fire on a group of youths in Westbury, Johannesburg, yesterday afternoon.
According to Northcliff Melville Times, Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said seven victims, aged between 13 and 19, were shot by three suspects believed to be members of a rival gang.
The wounded were taken to hospital, where two were declared dead on arrival. The remaining five are receiving medical attention.
Preliminary reports suggest the shooting was gang-related. Members of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, along with SAPS Forensic Services, were on the scene gathering evidence.
District Crime Intelligence has also been mobilised to assist the Anti-Gang Unit in tracing the suspects.
Muridili said the teenagers were approached by four suspects on foot — three carrying firearms — who opened fire without saying anything before fleeing. The incident occurred in Croesus Street, Westbury, at about 13:00.
